Google lets people influence searches on their names

The Internet search king google started on Tuesday featuring voluntarily created Google profiles at the bottoms of US "name-query" pages.

"It's no secret that from time to time many of us have searched on Google for our name or someone else's," Google software engineer Brian Stoler wrote in a posting at the Internet firm's website.

"When searching for yourself to see what others would find, results can be varied and aren't always what you want people to see. We want to make that better and give you more of a voice."

Google profiles contain pictures and basic information that people don't mind sharing. Concise profiles are displayed along with results of searches on people's names to allow a little control of one's online image.

When.com for Local Event : By AOL

When.com is launched by AOL on monday. This site is designed to be a plac where community members can search about hop happenings in their local area.
"Whether you're looking for events that are suitable for the whole family, something to do on a Friday night or ways to entertain out of town guests, when.com makes it easy for users to find where to go and what to do in their community or places they are traveling to," said Chris Spanos, the general manager of AOL Local and Search Verticals.

when.com is also usefull for event planning and advertisers to reach and connect with a targeted audience.

Economy is low but Google Q3 profit still rises

It looks like like google Share is safe investment. Google announcement of a 26 percent increase in third-quarter profits that surpassed analysts' forecasts.

"People suddenly realized that if there a stock you are going to own through this uncertainty, (Google) is the one," said Canaccord Adams analyst Colin Gillis.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin predicted the company will emerge from the turmoil even stronger. "My favorite time to manage is during a bust," Brin said in a Thursday interview with The Associated Press. "It brings more clarity about what your customers need and what your priorities should be."

Google To Test Video Ads With Search Results

Google on Friday announced that it would for the first time display links to video ads with search results.
Frm the next week the advertisers will be given the option of running video links under the traditional text advertising that runs alongside search results. The new links would be a box with a plus sign next to the words "watch video." When the box is clicked, a window would drop down with the video playing inside..
A Google spokesman said the new offering is a test and would only be used with a "small percentage" of searches. "The vast majority of users probably won't see this," he said.

While adding video ads doesn't pose any technical challenges, Google wants to monitor its impact on users of the site before committing to broader deployment. "We want to understand how users interact with these types of ads," the spokesman said.
