Twitter- Trying To Make Money

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Now Twitter is working on finding various ways to make money from its services. But At present they are not considering "advertising" .

Twitter Microblogging service provider co-founder Biz Stone said on Monday that the we are developing various add-on tools and service for the businesses and professional users of Twitter, which could create a revenue stream for the company. He said Twitter plans to introduce some of these tools by year end.

"There are a few reasons why we're not pursuing advertising -- one is it's just not quite as interesting to us," Stone told the Reuters Global Technology Summit in New York via videolink from San Francisco.

Stone said serving up ads alongside Twitter messages could also annoy users. And he said Twitter doesn't have, and isn't seeking to hire, the staff to create an advertising-based business.

"There are no people at Our Company (Twitter) who know anything about advertising or work in advertising. So we don't have anyone there to make or take those calls," said the executive, whose real name is Christopher Isaac Stone. He acquired the Biz title based on a childhood mispronunciation of his name.

Stone said on Monday that Twitter would remain free for consumers and businesses, and that the company's main focus at the moment is developing new features for commercial users, such as "lightweight analytics" and a directory of commercial accounts that would verify that businesses on Twitter are legitimate.

Google has removed paid links that is displayed in Google Sponsored Links in Google Serps.

"Google identified and canceled AdWords accounts displaying ads that re-directed users to malicious sites," a company representative wrote on a corporate blog late last week.

Google is looking at its AdWords practices to prevent similar incidents in the future, the company said. "This is an issue we've taken very seriously and will continue to monitor," it said. "We are also evaluating our systems to ensure that the appropriate measures are in place to block future attempts."

Peoples Are not sticking on Twitter : Nielsen

According to Nielsen Online research released on Tuesday More than 60 percent of Twitter users have stopped using the Twitter.
"Twitter has enjoyed a nice ride over the last few months, but it will not be able to sustain its meteoric rise without establishing a higher level of user loyalty," said David Martin, Nielsen Online's vice president for primary research.

"Or in other words, Twitter's audience retention rate, or the percentage of a given month's users who come back the following month, is currently about 40 percent," he said.

"Let there be no doubt: Twitter has grown exponentially in the past few months with no small thanks to celebrity exposure," he said in a reference to new users such as US talk show host Oprah Winfrey and promoters such as actor Ashton Kutcher.

"People are signing up in droves, and Twitter's unique audience is up over 100 percent in March," Martin said.

"But despite the hockey-stick growth chart, Twitter faces an uphill battle in making sure these flocks of new users are enticed to return to the nest," he said.

"A retention rate of 40 percent will limit a site's growth to about a 10 percent reach figure," he said in a reference to the number of potential users.

Martin said that when Facebook and MySpace were emerging networks like Twitter their retention rates were twice as high and they now have retention rates of nearly 70 percent.

Martin did say that Twitter's current 40 percent retention rate was better than the 30 percent it enjoyed pre-Oprah.

"When searching for yourself to see what others would find, results can be varied and aren't always what you want people to see. We want to make that better and give you more of a voice."

Google profiles contain pictures and basic information that people don't mind sharing. Concise profiles are displayed along with results of searches on people's names to allow a little control of one's online image.

Google on Friday announced that it would for the first time display links to video ads with search results.
Frm the next week the advertisers will be given the option of running video links under the traditional text advertising that runs alongside search results. The new links would be a box with a plus sign next to the words "watch video." When the box is clicked, a window would drop down with the video playing inside..
A Google spokesman said the new offering is a test and would only be used with a "small percentage" of searches. "The vast majority of users probably won't see this," he said.

While adding video ads doesn't pose any technical challenges, Google wants to monitor its impact on users of the site before committing to broader deployment. "We want to understand how users interact with these types of ads," the spokesman said.
